As we proceed through this year’s growing season, it’s wonderful to engage with the questions that are top of mind for many of you. This week our office faced alot of inquiries and resistance with regards to incoming weather or your mowing scheduling intertwinning with our scheduled visit to your neighbourhood. We wanted to clarify a few things about the products that we utilize with a goal of putting your minds at ease!
1. Mowing Timeline and Fertilization “Can we mow our lawn the same day as our fertilizer application or the day after?” Your curiosity is appreciated! The answer is a definitive yes. At Turf Systems, we’re proud to offer a blended high quality non-coated homogeneous granular fertilizer, unique to our professional turf business that has the ability to deliver Nitrogen in 3 different ways. Once applied it immediately releases a soluble nitrogen source to allow for a rapid green up of the lawn, followed by a consistent slow release form of Nitrogen that utilizes the many microbes in the soil to break it down and make it available to the plant. Once that begins it follows with a controlled release of Nitrogen providing the lawn with a predictable long term feeding schedule of up to 12 weeks. Unlike liquid fertilizers, our products can be mowed over, stomped or rained on, and will still perform at its best. Lawn mowers do not have the ability to alter the distribution of your fertilizer, nor will they pull a significant amout of granuals off of your lawn.
2. Rain and Fiesta™: A Beneficial Duo “Will rain affect our Fiesta™ application?” A brilliant question! Our iron-based weed control, Fiesta™, thrives under light and or incoming rainfall atmospheres. The magic lies in what is called ‘barometric pressure’. Plants (including weeds) are alive in nature and can sense when they are about to receive a rainfall based on the pressure in the air. When this occurs, the leaf pores open to improve uptake of the incoming rain (also creating an ideal opportunity for Fiesta absorption). This product also only requires an hour or two to fully dry or absorb. Let us relieve you of the stress of determining if the incoming weather will affect your application. Our technicians are trained and knowledgeable in identifying extreme weather conditions that might impact application effectiveness, and if this is ever dientified, we will take it upon ourselves to reschedule for you.
